Engraved by Keatinge & Ball (in Columbia, SC). A very colorful $1 CSA Note, very conservatively graded to be in ABOUT UNCIRCULATED+ condition. Dated February 17th 1864.
Plate letter B, with the left plate letter being broken, and a period before both plate letters. Serial # 88779 hand written at the top right side. Very crisp paper. Dark orange color on the front side, gives this note a sharp look. The details are clear, exactly what collectors avidly search for in Confederate notes. NO folds, hard creases, bent corners, tears, major stains, or ink erosion. Just a bit of light bank teller handling. Nicely cut and nearly fully framed; trimmed just a bit tight at the left side. Extra margin along the bottom. Hand written signatures. A couple tiny pinholes. Small piece of hinge tape on the backside, shows this note was most likely displayed in an album by a past collector. If you like to buy notes based on eye appeal, then this one may be for you. Clement C. Clay looks sharp on this eye popping note.
