A genuine $1 CSA NOTE that features Clement C. Clay, the Confederate States Senator for Alabama from 1861 to 1863.

Engraved by Keatinge & Ball (in Columbia, SC). Conservatively graded to be in EXTREMELY FINE+ condition. Dated February 17th 1864. (E) plate letter, with a period before each letter. Serial # 76294 hand written at the top right side.

Very crisp paper. Orange color overprint on the front side, gives this note a sharp look. The details are clear, exactly what collectors avidly search for in Confederate notes.

Extra margin the bottom, and fully framed on three sides. Trimmed just a bit tight along the top margin, keeping us from applying a "CHOICE" grade. Fancy hand written signatures. Small remnant of the red CSA Treasury stamp is visible at the top right corner.

NO folds, tears, ink erosion, or hard evidence of circulation. No pinholes. A few light handling creases are evident, mostly handled at the right side. Minor ink staining on the on the backside, showing this note was signed, and then placed on top of another note, before the ink had a chance to completely dry.

If you like to buy notes based on eye appeal, then this one may be for you. Clement C. Clay looks sharp on this note!
