Up for your consideration is a very collectible Confederate $100.00 T-41 note. Slaves hoeing cotton top center with John C. Calhoun at bottom left. Printed by Keatinge & Ball in Columbia, S.C. CHOICE FINE condition.

Catalog # Cr326A and PF60. Dated January 3rd 1863. Scroll #2. Plate letter Z. Plain paper. Light remnant of the "T" above "Confederate" at the left side of the central vignette. Serial # 153674 hand written clearly in red ink.

Crisp paper. Numerous folds and creases spread evenly across the paper. No tears. No pinholes. Nice signatures and numbering. Fully framed with a full borderline visible. A few margin nicks, all outside the frame line.

On the backside, is a very scarce hand issue endorsement from Confederate Major O.P. Chaffie, who was the Quartermaster for General Joseph Wheeler from May 1863 to 1865. The endorsement reads as follows:

Issued April 11th 1863
O. P. Chaffie
Maj + QM

Assigned a rarity rating of 13+ with less then 5 endorsements by Major Chaffie known to exist on these Treasury notes. In his 2016 book "Confederate Quartermasters, Commissaries, and Agents", Mike McNeil adds additional commentary along with copies of Major Chaffie's signature on pages 182-184. His book is an excellent resource if you are looking to learn more about notes that have endorsements.

One interest paid stamp on the backside from Savannah Georgia dated January 1st 1864.

A genuine slave note, that features a very collectible endorsement on the backside that does not surface too often. On consignment from a very astute collector for a limited time.

Price: $1,100.00
