A genuine 1862 Slave note that is dated December 11th 1862. Serial # 102009 in red ink at each side. FAIR condition w/tears and missing pieces.

Scroll # 2. A worn note that would normally be used as only a filler by collectors until a nicer example can be obtained. However, on the backside, there is a scarce endorsement which makes this note highly collectible despite the condition of the paper. The endorsement is from Confederate Captain John Stodart Byers, from the 3rd Kentucky Mounted Regiment. This endorsement reads:

Issued April 4 1863
J S Byers ACS

Information on this endorsement is confirmed with pictures and additional War info in Mike McNeil's 2016 book "Confederate Quartermasters, Commissaries, and Agents" on pages 152-154. The battles and numerous engagements that the 3rd Kentucky Regiment was involved in is easily found online as well.

In addition, there are three interest paid stamps on the backside showing interest was paid at Augusta in 1863, and then again in 1864 and 1865.

A note that features a desirable endorsement despite having condition factors. With less then 10 endorsements from Captain Byers on currency known to exist, that should ensure interest in this note for years to come.

Price: $650.00
