Up for your consideration is another interesting 1862 $100 CSA Note. Printed by J. T. Paterson in Columbia, S.C.

Dated January 8th 1863. Plate letters Ad. Serial #65750 is handwritten in red ink. Conservatively graded to be in FINE+ condition.

Dark printing. Clear details. The paper has numerous folds but still holds up well. Small margin nick at the lower right, which is outside the margin line. Minor staining is noted in the center and there is also ink erosion in the backside writing..

On the backside, is a nice hand issue endorsement from Captain J. Edward Caldwell, who was an officer in the Trans-Mississippi Department, and reported to Major W. H. Thomas in 1862. In August of 1863, he was stationed in Shreveport, Louisiana, under the command of General E. Kirby Smith.

This 1863 issue endorsement is nicely written and clearly reads:

Issued May 27th 1863 by
Capt. J. Ed Caldwell ACS

Two additional interest paid stamps from 1864 and 1865 follow the issue endorsement. Information on this endorsement is confirmed in Mike McNeil's 2016 book "Confederate Quartermasters, Commissaries, and Agents" on pages 165-166.

If you like to collect scarcer endorsements, this one carries a lot of history with it. On consignment from a very astute collector.

Price: $495.00
