A very collectible $100 note, hand dated September 12th 1862. Printed by J. T. Paterson & Co. in Columbia, S.C. Plate letters Ah. Serial # 45636 hand written in red ink on each side. EXTREMELY FINE condition.

Dark printing. Crisp paper. Sharp details.

A single fold and then several minor handling creases are noted. A few pinholes. No tears. Just a slight bit of ink erosion is noted in the "b" of "September" at the date area.

On the back side, there is a very desirable hand issue endorsement from CSA 1st Lt. John U. Ansley, who was a Military Storekeeper during the Civil War. Ansley was assigned to the Atlanta Arsenal in 1862, and received the rank of a Captain of Infantry in Georgia in 1865. This endorsement is written clearly in red ink:

Issued Dec 19 / 1862
J. U. A.

More information on this endorsement is found in Mike McNeil's 2016 book "Confederate Quartermasters, Commissaries, and Agents" on pages 59-61. His book is an excellent resource if you are looking to learn more about notes that have endorsements.

Three interest paid stamps on the backside, all stamped in Augusta, Georgia, in 1863, 1864 and 1865.

A very presentable train note, with a very collectible endorsement that does not surface too often. This note should meet or exceed your expectations.
