A genuine $100 CSA NOTE, dated August 18th 1862. Printed by J.T. Paterson & Co. in Columbia, S.C. Plate letter A. Serial # 35125 handwritten in red ink. NET VERY GOOD condition.

A note that is well worn, and definitely looks like it went through the Civil War. The left side of the note is intact, but there are major pieces missing at the right side, and a past collector reinforced it with paper. Thankfully, this note was not discarded, as on the backside is an endorsement that is classified as "Excessively RARE, with only 3-5 known to still exist.

The hand issue endorsement is from Major Thomas Lanigan, who in 1862, was a Major Reporting to General A. Pike, in the District of Indian Territory, under Hindman's Command. Records show Major Lanigan was stationed at Fort McCulloch, Choctaw Nation. In 1863, Major Lanigan signed vouchers in San Antonio, Texas, and later worked as a bonded Commissary of Subsistence in charge of the 4th Purchasing District at Paris, Texas. He later surrendered in 1865 in Houston Texas.

This issue endorsement reads:
