Printed by B. Duncan in Richmond, V.A. Solid FINE/VERY FINE condition. Most would grade VF. Dated September 2nd 1861. Serial number 21957 hand written twice in red ink at the top right, and bottom left. Two hand written signatures at the bottom.

This note is extremely popular due to the center design which features a slave picking cotton. Highly sought after by collectors which continues to drive the prices up. Very rare to find in high grades, and most often found very worn. If you can find an UNC example, the price tag could exceed $15K.

This example has a strong look, having retained the dark details and clarity despite being circulated. It has fantastic eye appeal for a mid-grade note, and presents very well. The paper is crisp and fairly clean, not cut-cancelled. There are several light folds and creases, but not enough to have given it a well worn look. Nicely cut, and nearly fully framed, but trimmed a bit tight at the top left. Ample margin at the right side to make up for it.

One very small 1/8" tear, that comes up to the dogs tail at the bottom center. It is not at all very evident, as there is no paper loss. Another small edge nick that barely crosses the frame line just under the left signature. A few very small pinholes mentioned for accuracy.

A scarce note, especially with nice eye appeal. If you have been looking for this type with nice eye appeal, and don't want to spend thousands, this one should meet your expectations. Your satisfaction is always guaranteed.
