Printed by Keatinge & Ball in Richmond, VA. FINE+ condition. Dated September 2nd 1861. CSA watermarked in SCRIPT directly in the center. Serial # 55716 hand written twice in the center.
This very desirable issue is not a rare issue, but is a favorite among collectors due to its design. Features R. M. T. Hunter is seen at the left, who was the Secretary of State for the Confederacy. At the right side, is a picture of a Dr. Alfred Elwyn as a small child. Research shows Dr. Elwyn was a minister in Philadelphia, and also a Republican abolitionist.
Fully framed, with a full borderline all around. Nice color on the front. Several folds and creases. The paper still retains some crispness, and holds up ok. Some scattered staining that does not detract much.
NO repairs, cut-cancels, ink erosion, or tears. One small edge nick that does not cross the frame line, located under the 'R' in RECEIVABLE. A couple pinholes.
For an issue that escalates rapidly in higher grades, and is always desirable, you can’t go wrong with obtaining one for your collection. As always, your satisfaction is guaranteed. |
