Printed by Hoyer & Ludwig, Richmond, VA. GOOD+ condition. Dated July 25th 1861. NO "FOR" before "Treasr". This is assisgned to be "RARE", with an estimated 21-50 only known to exist by Pierre Fricke in his latest field guide "Collecting Confederate Paper Money".
While this example looks like it definitely went thru the War, the rarity is what matters here. I have looked at the bottom right corner extensively, and there is not a single indictation of a marking before, or near, "TREASR". The paper is loose in the middle to lower part of the word, but the area before and above the word "TREASR" is still intact and clearly visible.
The details are still basically clear. Rough edges, with partial horizontal separation. Plate letter C. Serial # 30282 hand written on both sides.
Very tough variety to obtain in ANY grade or condition. Tightly held by collectors. From a very old collection that has just surfaced, and never been on the market before. |
