VERY GOOD+ condition. Dated September 2nd 1861. Printed signatures. Hand written serial number in two places which reads 117611. A portion of the "J WHATMAN" watermark directly across the note; J W running backwards on the left side, and A N running backwards on the right side. First series. Plate letter 6.

Very crisp paper. A few folds and several creases. Two hinge remnants on the backside corners, with damage to the front left corner when the note was removed. A tear extends down the center thru "STATES, and into the gray area. A bit of staining on the backside. Essentially in VF condition, but downgraded due to the damaged corner.

Overlooking the flaws, this J WHATMAN watermark is quite sought after. If you don't have this watermark in your collection, this one is priced very reasonable.

Guaranteed for life to be a genuine counterfeit from the Civil War era (not to be confused with the many novelty notes and copies on the market today).
